
A Tribute to Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.
This annual event,
organized in cooperation with the office of the Brooklyn Borough
President and CUNY's Medgar Evers College, is New York City's
largest celebration of the life and work of Dr. Martin Luther
King Jr.. The event is free and open to the public. Keynote
speakers at previous tributes have included such important world
figures as Kofi Annan, Secretary-General of the United Nations;
Senator Hillary Rodham Clinton; and Myrlie Evers-Williams, widow
of slain civil rights leader Medgar Evers.

BAM Rhythm & Blues Festival at MetroTech
BAM and MetroTech Center
signal Brooklyn's unofficial start to summer with our free outdoor
lunchtime concert series, BAM Rhythm & Blues Festival
at MetroTech. Legendary artists and rising stars ignite
BAM's downtown Brooklyn stage with a mix of classic and neo-soul,
funk, gospel, reggae, and world fusion sounds for ten Thursdays
during the summer.

DanceAfrica Bazaar
As part of the annual DanceAfrica festival, more than 200 vendors
from around the world (many Brooklyn-based) transform the parking
lots adjacent to BAM into a colorful global marketplace, offering
African, Caribbean, and African-American food, crafts, and fashion.

Festive Fulton
Each
December, BAM partners with the Brooklyn Chamber of Commerce
and Fulton Street merchants in a weeklong community holiday
shopping and culture festival. In the lobby of the BAM Harvey
Theater, musicians play as BAM distributes free hot chocolate.
Kids of all ages are also invited to make ornaments for home
& the BAM holiday tree. Along the Fulton corridor (Flatbush
Avenue-Grand Avenue) merchants offer special discounts, free
performances, and more.

CityParks
Concerts
The City Parks Foundation
in association with BAM produces an annual summer season of
free outdoor music concerts in Fort Greene and Von King Parks.
Notable rhythm & blues, funk, and reggae performers are
regularly featured.

BAMbooth
Several times a year,
BAM hits the road and pitches a tent at community festivals
throughout the borough and in Manhattan. At the BAMbooth, we
distribute literature, giveaway discount passes, and free merchandise.

Halloween Trick-or-Treat
A new annual tradition, 2002 marked the first BAM Trick-or-Treat
party in conjunction with the unveiling of Vik Muniz's Candy
BAM. This Oct 31, all Brooklyn Ghouls and boblins are invited
back to the front steps of BAM to see fire-creathers, pumpkin
carvers, and assorted mischief.
