Dancing into the Future programs offer students insight
into a range of dance vocabularies and cultures. Through intensive
workshop classes and residency programs, students learn technique
and gain an understanding of the dance genre by studying directly
with a variety of acclaimed dancers, choreographers and accomplished
teaching artists. The residency focuses on a different dance style
each year which prepares the students to see a related dance performance
at BAM as part of the residency. This year the theme will be African
dance. In addition, this year, we are offering a residency connected
with
The Flight Project for 7th - 12th grades. [include link to the

Dance Master Classes

Fee: $100-$150 per workshop
Maximum 35 per class.
Dancing into the Future master classes
provide an extraordinary opportunity
for students to work with professional
choreographers and dancers. Artists conducting
workshops have included Chuck Davis,
Artistic Director of BAM’s DanceAfrica,
members of the Mark Morris Dance Group,
David Dorfman, and dancers and choreographers
from companies performing at BAM. In-school
workshops will be held, allowing students
to experience the creative processes
involved in dance and choreography.

The Flight Project Residency
In-School Dance Residency Program
Oct-Dec 2003
7th -2th grade
$20 per student including performance
ticket
Maximum 30 per class.
This six-session in-school dance residency
is being offered in the fall in conjunction
with the performance of The Flight
Project by the Dayton Contemporary Dance Company.
In this residency students will explore
the concept and physics of flight through
dance and choreography: from mythological
stories to space age adventures, from
scientific principles of pitch and balance
to the process of invention. The project
will culminate with the students attending
the performance on December 11.

AfricanDanceBeat
In-School Dance Residency Program
Feb-May 2004
$22 per student including performance

Maximum 30 per class.
African dance is the focus of this year's
eight-session, in-school dance residency
program. Students will learn the technique
and meaning of selected styles of African
dance. Students participating in this
activities-based program will attend
a performance at BAM on May 28, 2004
by a visiting African dance company in
conjunction with DanceAfrica, BAM's annual
celebration of African and African-American
culture.
